In this episode of Billet Proof Bikes below, our owner, Damian, walks us through his vintage 1975 BMW R60/6 cafe racer build.
We are all about custom motorcycles here at Billet Proof. From helping you build yours to when we finally have time to work on our own, it's a passion that we cannot live without. Damian has been building bikes for almost 15 years now and this Beemer is a special little lady.
This R60/6 version is from a range of boxer-style, twin cylinder motorcycles that were made in Berlin, Germany, by the BMW from just 1974 through 1976. The "slash six" models in those years stepped away from the earlier "slash five" engine variant. Firstly the displacement itself changed from 500cc to 600cc, they offered a sport model, and for the first time you could get disc brakes; front end only, of course. The gas tank's overall design was altered to get rid of the chrome trim pieces for rubber knee pads. The dash gauge pod was also moved from the headlight housing to its own special assembly. When Damian got the bike it was mostly in this original state.
Fast forward a bunch of years and he turned this vintage classic into a slick little cafe racer that sounds just as smooth as it rides!
